Canceled Birthday

Poor Max. This year the birthday plans for Max did not go as planned. Wesley tested positive for Covid and then I got it a few days later and then Sean and Max got it a few days after that. We were all pretty miserable for about a week and not up to much of a celebration (who would want to come over anyways!). So he just opened presents and made a cake. Happy 13th Birthday Max!

Max is very much into Halloween and I couldn't pass up a blow up zombie baby!

This & That

I've told you about my hosta obsession in a previous post. At this point I don't know how many hosta varieties I've added this year but it's probably 80+. But it's September and the growing season is growing to a close. Once the first freeze hits the plants will go dormant and their leaves will die back leaving no trace of the plant until next spring when little eyes appear and leaves emerge. I wanted some way of knowing where all of these plants are to see if they come back next spring so I made up little metal name tags. I bought the metal marker tags and used Sean's spiffy label maker to print off clear labels. The cartridge says outdoor use so we'll see how they hold up this winter.

We've had many projects over the past couple of months, most of them involving several trips to Lowes, Home Depot or Menards. It's been quite the summer for things breaking. The latest involved the water heater dying. It was 21 years old so I'll give it a pass. When Sean says he needs to go to the hardware section I know it's time to go lounge in the furniture area as we might be there awhile. This past time Max and I found these oversized recliners and thoroughly enjoyed our down time.

We have a new driver in the family! Wesley took drivers ed over the summer and now has his learners permit. So for the next year he's driving with a parent in the car. He's doing great! He drives home from school every day and I can tell he's becoming more confident each week. Go Wesley!

I've found that I need to take more breaks from sculpting lately. My hands get stiff if I work too much so I've been picking up the paint brush more and more and really enjoy it. I just love Oregon coast pictures and have been painting Haystack rock at Cannon Beach. It's not done, I'm not liking the lower left corner. The grass needs help. As it is I have it hanging in the living room and I walk by and look at it, see what I might want to change and take it off the wall and paint. It's been a fun change.
